Walden 11 is a design-build studio project sponsored by sustainable building supply manufacturers CertainTeed, aimed at exploring a modular building system. The class focused on the integration of design and technology within high-performance building structures and skins, culminating in the creation of a 140-square-foot pavilion inspired by Henry David Thoreau’s Walden Pond cabin. Students collaborated in teams to address various design aspects, including floors, cladding, and the roof. The team produced a half-size prototype as a proof of concept before completing the full-size version.
